This action allows to continue with the implementation of the Modernisation Plan of the railway connection between Benidorm and Dénia. The planned work affects 10.93 kilometres of railway track and has a completion time of 11.5 months.

The Generalitat has begun work on the track renovation and infrastructure conditioning of Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant (Benidorm-Dénia) on the section between Gata de Gorgos and Dénia.

This procedure has a budget of 14.5 million euros and affects 10.93 kilometres of railway track. The predicted completion time is 11.5 months.

The renewal of the track on this section allows the continuation of the actions included in the Modernisation Plan for Line 9 carried out by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) and which were interrupted by the declaration of the state of alarm.

This action, like the rest implemented in Line 9, is likely to be co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Together with the works of this section, last March FGV allocated the renovation works between Teulada and Gata de Gorgos of this same line, with a budget of 15.1 million Euros and affecting about six kilometres of track.

All of these investments are aimed at maintaining and improving operating conditions, guaranteeing the regularity and quality of the service with standards similar to those of the rest of the network in Alicante.

Among the actions already underway or in the administrative process and those planned, the investment of the Generalitat in Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant amounts to more than 130 million euros.

Renovation actions

This action is intended to achieve a comprehensive renovation and modernisation of this section of Line 9 in terms of rail, sleepers and ballast. The work is aimed at improving safety conditions, promoting user comfort, track durability and reducing maintenance.

The state of a large part of the infrastructure of this section, especially embankments, drainage and slopes, requires consolidation actions

In addition, FGV has also planned to add the installation of the new signposting and communication systems on this section.

In parallel with these actions, FGV has already granted the purchase of the supply of sleepers and rails for the renovation of these two sections. The public company has thus made the purchase of 19,000 monobloc metric gauge concrete sleepers for the amount of 1,643,785 euros, including VAT, and 30,600 linear meters of 54E1 grade R260 railroad track, at a cost of 1,443,572.77 euros, also including the aforementioned tax.
