Railway transport on the FGV (Metrovalencia and Alicante Tram) network has contributed to Sustainability within its field of action. This contribution is mirrored in many economic as well as social and environmental aspects.
From an economic point of view, FGV contributes to a reduction in costs derived from traffic congestion; it drastically reduces energy consumption and all types of costs derived from private transport (insurance, conservation costs and under-utilization of car parks, insurance claims, surveillance, pollution, noise, use of space, etc.). It also helps the development of activities that promote urban mobility while contributing to direct and indirect job creation.

From a social point of view, FGV contributes to the integration of the different areas it serves. It improves the overall quality of transport; due to its high level of safety, it registers lower rates of accidents; it is continuously working towards increasing accessibility for people with reduced mobility whether due to physical or sensorial causes; it participates in and promotes cultural activities.; etc.
From an internal point of view, FGV?s social activity is evident in different aspects of relationships with its employees.

From an environmental point of view, FGV?s presence reduces emissions on the environment in relation to road vehicles because by using electrical energy it doesn?t contaminate its surroundings. The energy it uses can be obtained through renewable energy sources and the energy consumption per passenger is much lower than other forms of transport. The materials used for the infrastructure and vehicles are more durable.
FGV, in its role within the transport system, contributes to reducing traffic, occupies less spaces per passenger, promotes intermodal transport with non motorized modes of transport (on foot and bicycle) and with private vehicles by offering strategically located car parks close to the different stations as well as with public transport through modal, spatial, technical and tariff integration
In its internal processes, FGV is aware of all environmental needs and obligations. It uses quality criteria, which entails that efficiency be the guide for its policies and decisions. These quality policies are reflected in the different certificates obtained or in the process of being obtained.
