The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has announced that the 50% reduction in the prices of public transport of the Generalitat will be applied from 1st February, and will be in force for six months, until 31st July, 2023.

This has been advanced during the commissioning of the renovated section of line 9 of the TRAM linking Gata de Gorgos and Denia, which was also attended by the Minister for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Rebeca Torró.

The measure will coexist with free public transport for those under 30 years of age and will be applied throughout the network of Metrovalencia, TRAM d’Alacant, TRAM de Castelló, MetroBus and various concessions. The total cost of the initiative will be co-financed by the central government, which will bear 30% of the cost, and the Generalitat will be responsible for 20% of the reduction.

During the event, the president highlighted the investment effort of the Generalitat to offer an “increasingly accessible” public transport and help citizens to cope with the effects of inflation, and has ensured that, with the Bono 10 TRAM, the inaugural trip of the L9 made this Monday between Teulada and Denia will cost 40 cents.

During his speech, the president also announced that in the coming weeks the announcement of the tender for the informative study of the new TRAM between Denia and Gandia will be published. In this regard, Puig has insisted that the objective of the Ministry is to promote urban and metropolitan transport to “sew up” the districts and offer citizens a “quality public transport that is affordable, more efficient, and improves connectivity between people and our towns”.

The Minister for Territorial Policy, Rebeca Torró, has shown the “firm commitment” of the Generalitat to a collective and “more sustainable” public transport model, because “only in this way will we ensure that users can, in the most agile way possible, move around in a sustainable way and leave the car at home”, in addition to “improving territorial structuring and combating climate change”.

The Minister recalled that in recent years the Ministry has reduced the price of public transport and expanded the number of lines, in addition to increasing investment and implementing “new modes of transport”. The aim is to ensure that cities and metropolitan areas “manage to structure an integrated, efficient transport and mobility system based on a rational use of urban space”, which will also have an impact on having a territory that is “more competitive, more humane, and more habitable”, she concluded.

150 million investment in L9

The recovery of line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant that runs between Denia and Benidorm has involved an investment of 150 million euros in order to modernise the route and restore communication between the eight municipalities of the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa linked through the transport network of FGV.

Specifically, the last section of L9 put into service on Monday, has allowed to renew the route between Gata de Gorgos and Denia and form a tram line throughout the municipality of Denia. The project has allowed for the urban integration of the tracks, to transform the level crossings into crossings with traffic lights and to remove the walls that close off the tracks, putting an end to the division caused by the trenet when it cut off the Southern part of Denia. In addition, the TRAM workrooms at the Dénia station itself, which are essential for the maintenance of the new dual trains, have been fitted out.
