- Minister Martínez Mus presented the “Transport that Unites” campaign, which “aims to highlight the more human side of public transport, which, following the floods, has proven to be a fundamental element in ensuring the mobility of thousands of people.”
- This initiative is part of the events organized for European Mobility Week.
The Generalitat is joining the celebration of European Mobility Week. For this reason, and as announced by the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, on Monday, September 22nd, to mark Car-Free Day, the Metrovalencia, TRAM d’Alacant, TRAM de Castelló, and Metrobús services will open their doors free of charge throughout the day.
At the same time, as part of the planned initiatives, the Generalitat is launching the “Transport that Unites” campaign, which encourages all citizens to use public transport.
Martínez Mus explained that “the goal is to promote mobility habits for the entire society throughout the year, and not just this week, and to remind everyone that public transport is a fundamental means of facilitating urban and intercity travel.”
“Transport that Unites” joins the campaign launched by the European Union, with the slogan “Mobility for All,” and emphasizes the more humane side of public transport after services have been interrupted in certain areas due to flooding in recent months.
Martínez Mus explained that “the floods of October 29th have made clear the importance of ensuring mobility through public transport as a backbone and a link between people.”
“This year, we must bear in mind that the effects of the water and the storm in the province of Valencia have also marked a turning point for mobility. It hasn’t been a conventional recovery, but rather an emergency process, but thanks to the efforts made, it has allowed us to recover in record time a transportation system that is, in many cases, improved, resilient, and more integrated into its surroundings,” the minister noted.
Promoting the Use of Public Transport
Martínez Mus also emphasized that “in order to promote the use of public transport, the Generalitat maintains free travel for children under 14 years of age on regional transport, as well as for residents of the municipalities most affected by the floods last October.”
For all other users, a general 40% reduction is offered on season tickets and multi-ride passes, while those under 31 can continue to access discounts of up to 50% on monthly passes, thanks to the Móbilis 30 card.
