  • Compared to the previous Tuesday, a combined increase of 7.7% was recorded
  • The Metrovalencia and TRAM d’Alacant networks offered free access throughout the day

More than 400,000 passengers—specifically 434,390—traveled for free yesterday on the Metrovalencia and TRAM d’Alacant networks to mark European Car-Free Day. This event, promoted by the Generalitat, concluded the various activities of European Sustainable Mobility Week, organized by the Third Vice-Presidency and the Department of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery.

Yesterday, Metrovalencia and TRAM d’Alacant services operated free of charge, as did other Generalitat public transport systems such as Metrobús and TRAM de Castelló.

According to the data, the Valencia metro and tram network recorded 371,152 trips, an increase of 8.9% compared to the 15th (the Tuesday of the previous week). Meanwhile, the Alicante network recorded 63,238 trips, an increase of 1.1% compared to that same day, the 15th. In total, FGV recorded 434,390 trips—a 7.7% increase—again compared to the 15th, the corresponding day of the week.

Car-Free Day—which proceeded smoothly, with ticket validators left open to allow free passenger access—marked the conclusion of Mobility Week, held from September 16 to 22.

Campaign

Once again, the Generalitat has joined the celebration of European Mobility Week. As part of the planned initiatives, it launched a campaign under the slogan “Choose public transport. Move. Share. Connect,” inviting all citizens to use public transport.

Mobility Week is always a good time to highlight the Generalitat’s efforts to provide high-quality, sustainable, and accessible public transport services in the Valencian Community.

The Generalitat aims to promote mobility habits across society throughout the year—not just during this week—and to remind everyone that public transport is a completely safe way to travel within and between cities.

As part of the scheduled activities, TRAM d’Alacant participated on September 20 in the “Ciclovía” (cycling and mobility event) organized by the Alicante City Council along the Postiguet Beach promenade, featuring a display of historic trains and the unveiling of the new 4500-series tram.

Meanwhile, Metrovalencia took part in the Mobility Fair organized by the Valencia City Council at the Viveros Gardens on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20.

Encouraging public transport use

To encourage the use of public transport, the Generalitat is maintaining free travel for children up to 14 years of age, as well as for residents of municipalities most affected by the October 2024 floods.

For other users, there is a general 40% discount on season tickets and multi-trip passes, while those under 31 can continue to access discounts of up to 50% on monthly passes.
