The Generalitat has started the tender process to install a new railroad switch between the Luceros and Mercado stations of the TRAM d’Alacant,, which will improve the shunting capacity of the trains and trams that run along the network’s underground route.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has tendered the drafting of the project and execution of the works for the installation of the railroad switch between the Luceros and Mercado stations of the TRAM d’Alacant. The tender budget amounts to 1,462,136.86 euros, VAT included.

Together with improving the shunting capacity in the underground section through which Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the TRAM d’Alacant run, this operation will help regulate the service, since it will reduce the effects of possible incidents on all trains and trams in circulation.

Currently, Luceros station has only two tracks in service, both of which are necessary to comply with the established timetables, although only track 1 is prepared for the departure of vehicles, while the other is used for shunting.

As a result, it is necessary to carry out shunting operations continuously in order to adapt the material corresponding to each line at all times, to set aside the surplus units and to leave the platform track free until the time of departure.

Planned work

Works included in the basic project are necessary to carry out the implementation of the new switch, with works on the track superstructure, the platform drainage, the overhead line and the ventilation system of the existing tunnel between Luceros and Mercado.

In addition to these actions, it is necessary to carry out another series of works related to the interlockings, switches and modifications to the signposting, communications and safety systems already installed.
