The Generalitat has opened the tendering process for the construction project of the new underpass and the removal of the level crossing on Beniardá Avenue in Benidorm, on the TRAM d’Alacant Line 9 that connects this town with Dénia.

The initial budget presented by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) amounts to 6,243,192.42 euros, VAT included, and establishes a maximum implementation period of 16 months.

This proceeding will allow the transformation of the current TRAM d’Alacant level crossing, located on Beniardá Avenue in Benidorm, into a pedestrian level crossing, secured by light and sound signals, and will add an underpass for vehicles.

The Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, valued the administrative progress a “very requested and long-awaited” proceeding by residents and visitors to the city, as it “will end the traffic problems that currently occur at this access point to Benidorm”.

The new underpass will have a standard two-lane section in each direction with a central median, while the paths for cyclists and pedestrians will remain on the surface.

At the same time, the proceeding will culminate with the implementation of secondary service lanes that allow access to the station street, private plots and municipal incentive parking located next to the Benidorm station.

Beniardá Avenue is one of the main access points to the Benidorm municipality, from the AP-7 motorway and the N-332 main road, and is formed by a four-lane road, park-like, with strips of pavement and bike lane on the sides of the west section of the level crossing, while on the sea side, the configuration is fully urban, with two-metre pavements and bike lane on the avenue’s median strip.

This work is part of the set of proceedings carried out by the Generalitat, through FGV, with the aim of eliminating level crossings throughout its network, as they are one of the main sources of danger, both for rail traffic and for road traffic and pedestrians on the TRAM d’Alacant and FGV. Metrovalencia networks.

During these interventions, priority is given to removing the level crossings with the greatest impact on safety, establishing a staggered plan in several blocks depending on the crossings’ conditions. This level crossing is one of those analysed on the TRAM d’Alacant and catalogued as “top priority” for its removal or transformation.

For the project’s preparation, BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodology techniques have been used, so it was considered essential that, in the construction of all work phases, the successful candidate will apply this methodology, based on the information, plans, studies and documentation that make up the approved construction project and the requirements expressed in the administrative specifications and www.fgv.es/manual_bim .

This proceeding is eligible for funding through the European Union Next Generation EU funds.
