  • • The company will invest 1.9 million euros in a facility where the units can be parked, quick checks can be carried out and incidents can be resolved.
  • • With 2,224 m2, it will have an additional track, pit, footbridge, bogie cleaner, pneumatic and compressor installation, new tank and diesel pump.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has started the work for the construction and adaptation of a depot for the rolling stock of Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant (Benidorm-Dénia).

The units that will be put into place in the facility are the Class 2500 diesel units, which currently provide service on L9, and the Class 5000 electro-diesel units, which will do so in the future when the track renovation that is currently being carried out is completed.

In addition, it is possible that some of the Class 4100 tram-trains that make the Line 1 journeys between Luceros and Benidorm may also be parked or reviewed if deemed appropriate for reasons of operability.

With an investment of 1.9 million euros, VAT included, and an implementation period of about a year and a half, this proceeding is included in the project to remodel the platforms and improve the accessibility of the stations and stops on L9 as part of the Modernisation Plan for this line.

This proceeding, like the rest of the works carried out on Line 9, is likely to be co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Features of the depot

With a surface area of 2,224.8 square metres, it will house the covered train parking area, and it will be possible to carry out quick checks of the units with the possibility of carrying out repairs or resolving incidents without the units having to travel to Talleres Campello.

For this purpose, the depot will be equipped with a pit, footbridge, bogie cleaner, pneumatic and compressor installation, new tank and diesel pump, etc., as well as an additional track.

An additional advantage is the possibility of performing maintenance on Benidorm units serving on Line 9 in the event that there is an unusual disruption to the service or tracks are cut off due to construction work, in addition to having more space for parking trains than at present.

As this is a new construction project, the adaptation of spaces for locker rooms, offices and a multi-purpose or training room is planned.
