  • The budget for this operation amounts to 15.1 million euros, including VAT.
  • The planned works involve about six kilometres of track and allow progress to be made in the modernisation of this line.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has begun work on the track renovation and infrastructure refurbishment of Line 9 (Benidorm-Dénia) on the section between the Teulada and Gata de Gorgos stations.

The construction project awarded by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) to the company Rover Rail, S.A. has a budget of 15,137,130.34 euros, including VAT, and an implementation period of 12 months. This section is about six kilometres long.

This proceeding is in addition to the works that FGV is carrying out on the section between Gata de Gorgos and Dénia, with an investment of 14.5 million euros and an initial implementation period of 11.5 months.

The renewal of the track on these sections will allow to complete the renovation work planned for the whole of Line 9 linking Benidorm and Denia. Last July 31st, the Calp-Teulada section was opened to the railway traffic once the track renovation works and the restoration of the Ferrandet and Quisi bridges were completed.

This action is part of the various technical initiatives being carried out by the Generalitat, through FGV, on this line and which aim to maintain and improve operating conditions, ensuring the regularity and quality of service with similar standards to the rest of the TRAM d’Alacant network.

Just like the rest of the construction works being carried out on Line 9, this project is likely to be co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Track renewal

These proceedings improve safety conditions, promote user comfort, improve the durability of the track and reduce maintenance. In addition, the planned works include the installation of new signposting and communications systems.

This action is intended to achieve a comprehensive renovation and modernisation of this section of Line 9, just like the section between Gata de Gorgos and Dénia. A large part of the infrastructure of this section, especially embankments, drainage and slopes, requires reinforcement work. Likewise, the track superstructure needs to be renewed in terms of rail, sleepers, and ballast.

In parallel with these actions, FGV has already granted the purchase of the supply of sleepers and rails for the renovation of these two sections. The public company has thus made the purchase of 19,000 concrete monoblock metric gauge sleepers for the amount of 1,643,785 euros, including VAT, and 30,600 linear metres of railroad track, at a cost of 1,443,572.77 euros, also including the aforementioned tax.
