  • The Minister Arcadi España has highlighted that progress is looking more positive in comparison to previous weeks.
  • Metrovalencia  registered 3,266,593 passengers and TRAM d’Alacant registered 588,451.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) allowed 3,855,044 transport users to travel in March this year, which has meant an increase of 11.84% compared to the same period in 2020 when, starting 14th March, confinement began and mobility restrictions due to COVID-19 were put in place.

In order to analyse these results and their evolution, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, and the Managing Director of FGV, Anaïs Menguzzato, held a work meeting and later visited one of the stations in the Metrovalencia network.

As explained by the Minister “these results mean that, for the first time in a year, a positive balance has been achieved in the monthly results of Metrovalencia and TRAM d’Alacant passengers since the beginning of the restrictions applied due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19, thus maintaining a positive trend compared to previous weeks”.

In Metrovalencia the number of journeys was 3,266,593 and represents an increase of 8.63%, while in the TRAM d’Alacant network the increase compared to March last year is 33.86%, with 588,451 passengers registered.

The results for March also represent a significant increase over the previous month, when weekend mobility restrictions were still in place. FGV registered 2,780,078 journeys in February, 39.61% of the accumulated journeys in the same month in 2020. The increase from February to March this year was 38.67%.

Arcadi España also pointed out that “throughout these twelve months, FGV has at all times maintained the metro and tram service in Valencia and Alicante and has been adapting it to the guidelines established by the state and regional authorities”.

“At the same time, we have been adopting different measures of prevention, cleaning and care for users, implementing, for example, a very innovative measure such as the incorporation of the COVID-19 Assistants to ensure a transport service in the maximum safety conditions,” said the Minister.
