The Generalitat, through the Regional Ministry of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, has provided nearly one and a half million journeys for social and health care staff with the free public transport pass that was launched in April 2020. Thus, during the first year of operation of this ticket, an initiative that has involved an investment of one million euros, a total of 1,445,597 journeys have been recorded: 1,357,616 in Valencia, 49,659 in Castellón and 38,322 in Alicante. As for the months in which the free pass was most used, in the province of Valencia, March 2021 stands out, with 153,906 journeys, and November and October 2020 with 132,557 and 129,816 respectively; in Castellón, the highest number of journeys took place in October, November and December last year, with 5.439, 5,354 and 4,723 in each of them, and finally, in the province of Alicante, the periods in which the largest influx was recorded were May and June 2020 and March 2021, with 3,837, 3,730 and 3,747 trips. In terms of the number of cards giving free access to Metrobus, Metrovalencia, TRAM d’Alacant  and Castelló Tram,  6,407 have been used in Valencia, 349 in Castellón and 411 in Alicante, with an average per ticket used of 212, 142 and 93 validations in each of the provinces.

1,000 more free passes for hospitals

The Regional Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, who has met with the director of the Metropolitan Transport Authority of Valencia, Manuel Martinez, and the regional secretary of Public Works, Transport and Mobility, Maria Perez, recalled the origin of this initiative as a “gesture of gratitude of the Valencian Government towards the tireless work of healthcare workers and those in the social and healthcare sector during the pandemic”, and states that the Abono Sanitat (Healthcare worker travel pass) is a way of showing their appreciation for “the support of this group”.
