- The President of the Generalitat visits the Stadler plant where new trams are being manufactured to expand and renew the fleets of Alicante and Valencia, with an investment of 140 million euros from the Valencian Government
- The first of the six Alicante Tram units will arrive this summer and will be operational before the end of the year. The remaining units will be integrated into the Metrovalencia network in the coming months, offering a total of almost 2,000 seats
President Juanfran Pérez Llorca emphasized the Valencian Government’s commitment to a sustainable, safer, more efficient, and more accessible metropolitan mobility model that will improve the daily lives of all citizens.
This was stated during a visit to the Stadler plant in Albuixech, where 22 new trams are being manufactured for Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV). The event was attended by the president of Stadler Valencia, Iñigo Parra, and the third vice president and Minister of the Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Reconstruction, Vicente Martínez Mus.
The president explained that FGV’s 2026-2030 investment plan, with a budget of over €840 million, allocates €185 million for fleet renewal. The majority of this investment, around €140 million, is earmarked for these new 4500 series trams, which will be added to the fleet to improve current service and meet the needs arising from planned expansion projects in the provinces of Alicante and Valencia in the coming years.
Specifically, the first of the six units destined for Alicante will arrive this summer to begin testing. Two will enter service before the end of the year, and another three in 2027. As for Metrovalencia, 15 units will be delivered in 2027 and the last one in 2028, allowing for the gradual replacement of the 3800 series units, which are three decades old.
These units have a greater capacity, with 87 more seats than the previous models, which will allow for almost 2,000 additional seats to be offered between the TRAM and Metrovalencia. It is worth noting that the 4500 series units have 285 seats compared to 150 in the 3800 series and 198 in the 4200 series.
In addition to having more seats than the current units, these trains are much more comfortable for users, especially those with reduced mobility, and are adapted to the most demanding safety standards.
For the highest representative of the Valencian Government, this action is part of a clear commitment, backed by concrete actions and budgets, that the Consell is making to a modern, accessible, and efficient public rail transport network serving Valencian society.
Technology and Talent of Valencian Industry
The head of the Valencian Government emphasized that these trams are 100% Valencian industrial production, generating value and aligning with the Generalitat’s strategy to promote reindustrialization through ambitious planning that creates new opportunities.
In his opinion, the Stadler plant in Albuixech is an industrial benchmark that demonstrates the capacity, technology, and talent in our region to position us at the forefront and in leadership of sustainable mobility.
He also highlighted the company’s generation of quality employment, its contribution to attracting and retaining knowledge in the Valencian Community, and its support for vocational training.
Along these lines, Pérez Llorca noted the Generalitat’s commitment to fostering the alliance between industry and education to develop qualified professionals, adapted to real needs and with better job placement opportunities, thus retaining talent.
Finally, the president reaffirmed the Valencian Government’s commitment to the business sector with measures such as tax and investment incentives, administrative simplification and the strengthening of training, among others.
